Our History

The Extra Khoya that Started it All

A family recipe: In the late 1980s, Mr. Arvind Joshi brought a large quantity of khoya (milk solids) home. His wife, Mrs. Madhuri Joshi (née Parchure), who came from a family of sweet makers in Hubli, used it to make Dharwadi pedhas, a local favorite.

Testing the waters: After getting a great response from family and friends, the Joshi family decided to sell their pedhas on a larger scale. They initially distributed their sweets to established shops across Pune to test the market.

The first shop: Encouraged by the increasing demand, Arvind Joshi set up a small 4×4 roadside stall near Alankar Police Chowki in Kothrud in 1992. For four years, this small stall served thousands of customers and built the brand’s reputation for quality.

Formal establishment: The business was formally established in 1996 in partnership with Mr. Milind Joshi.

The First Shop

In 1992, Arvind Joshi decided to open a shop. After making preparations and other arrangements, we could secure a 4*4 roadside stall near Alankar Police Chowki in the neighborhood of Kothrud, Pune. From 1992 to 1996, we served thousands of customers from that tiny stall. We included more dishes in our menu. One thing we never compromised was our quality. Our commitment to quality and drive to serve the best helped us grow in a trusted and loved brand during those four years.

How we produce our legacy

Expansion & Building of the Unique Identity

Entering the dairy business: In addition to their sweets business, the Joshis also ventured into milk and khoya production by setting up a small milking unit in Roha village.

A new partner: Around 1996, the business journey saw a turning point when Milind Parchure, Arvind Joshi’s brother-in-law, joined the business. Mr. Arvind Joshi later left the partnership, and the business has since been run solely by Mr. Milind and his wife, Mrs. Sukhada.

First full-fledged shop: The founders opened their first large shop at Bharatkunj Society in Erandwane, marking the beginning of their multi-outlet journey.

Automation: Over the years, the company has evolved its manufacturing processes, transitioning from manual to largely automated production to meet the growing demand while maintaining quality.

Modernization: Today, Joshi Sweets boasts Twelve shops, a hotel called Joshi Upahargruha, and a centralized kitchen. The brand has consciously avoided franchising to ensure that the quality and freshness of their products are never compromised.

Our Mission

In the last 25-odd years, we have observed that people love authentic Maharashtrian and Indian Sweets. It had been a great uniting force between generations and cultures. It is our mission to put authentic Maharashtrian Sweets, Namkeens, and other delights on a global map. Our delights should be revered as much as Western dishes. The attention and appreciation are long-due and we will keep putting efforts towards our goal.

Staff Management

A brand’s accountability is often tested with regard to how it manages the support staff; be it the laborer’s or the suppliers. At Joshi Sweets, we take care of our labourers and suppliers in great measure. We understand that the accommodation, medical expenses, hygiene, and safety of our labourers are our responsibility and we never compromise on any of the above.
